Roberta Gertrude Cade

Dec. 28, 1936 — July 10, 2018

Roberta Gertrude Cade, 81, of Arvada, Co., died July 10, 2018. Ms. Cade was born Dec. 28, 1936, on her family’s farm in Osborne, Ks. She was a member of Arvada Covenant Church, where she held various leadership roles, including on the Missionary Committee, Benevolence Fund, and Growing Home a program to help families that were experiencing homelessness. Her faith was central to her being, which she affirmed in her will and testament: “Realizing the uncertainty of this life, and with full confidence and trust in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in His death for my sins on the cross, and in His shed blood as an atonement for my soul, and knowing that by faith in His sacrifice on the cross for me, I have eternal life.” Ephesians 1:7

Ms. Cade was raised in Colorado, the eldest of five siblings. She earned a bachelor's degree in English and a master’s in library science from the University of Denver. She taught in Colorado and Wisconsin before moving to New York, where she served in several library leadership capacities, including Director of the Southern Adirondack Library System. She was a visionary in her field, advocating for the use of technology to improve services for library patrons. Ms. Cade was a lifelong learner with particular interest in other cultures. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally.

Along with her faith, Ms. Cade’s family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She hosted bridge clubs and other social events, and invited others to join her trips abroad. She had a sharp sense of humor and was fiercely independent; she had no trouble making her preferences and opinions known.

Ms. Cade was preceded in death by her mother, Elvira Jane (Young) Cade; father, Kenneth Dean Cade; and sister, Laura Lou (Cade) Clutts. She is survived by brothers William Robert Cade and Chester Dean Cade (wife Kay Cade); a sister, Cheryl (Cade) White (husband David Rankin); nieces Theresa Clutts, Janey (Clutts) Sterling, Laurie (Clutts) Walter, Bonnie Garcia Johns, Susan White and Mitzi (Cade) Galgano; nephews Jimmy Clutts, Gary Cade and Mark Cade; great-nieces and nephews Alec Cade, Sara Cade, Kymberlee (Cade) Long, Eric Duncan Clutts, James Clutts, Kristie (Clutts) Franks, Jeffrey Walter, Melinda (Clutts) Kiefer, Amber (Sterling) Longan, Wyatt Green, Dominic Galgano, Natalie Galgano, Vincent Galgano, Margaret Galgano, James Johns, Jermaine Johns, Jerica Johns, and Jolene (Johns) Smith; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved, admired, and will be missed.

Tony was born July 1969 in Colorado to Duane and Barbara Del Duca. Tony was survived by his beloved sons T.J. and Hunter, his sister Michelle and brother in law Jim Hartman and nephews, Ben and Corey Greenwalt, his Aunt Lois(Lo Ann) Donelson(his favorite); his Uncle Darrel and Aunt Andrea Del Duca, Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Frank Ziolkowski and Aunt Margaret Fisher and further survived by many cousins.

Weary of reading obituaries noting someone's courageous battle with death, Tony wanted it known that he lived life on his own terms and died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors' orders and raising hell for more than 4 decades. He enjoyed booze, fishing, cars and women until the day he died.

The Family encourages all of Tony’s friends to celebrate his life and the joy he put in yours.

Private family services were held.

Capalupa in 1975 in Antony, just outside Paris and they lived together in Corsica and then New York, as well as traveling in South America and Europe. Together they raised two children. Bruce Gordon Wallace

Bruce Gordon Wallace (71) passed away on July 13, 2018, succumbing to a long battle
with Lewy Body Dementia. Bruce was born in Westfield, N.J., in 1947, the third son of
John and Marjorie Wallace. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jill, his three
sons Michael, Timothy, and Jeffrey (Darrah), and 4 grandchildren, Marion, Alden,
Marjorie, and Lettie, brother John (Bruce), brothers-in-law Cliff Nelson (Beth) and John
Nelson (Cyndy), and 8 nieces and nephews - Lisa Sayoc (Stephen), Christopher Nelson
(Holly), Stephen Nelson (Christina) and Matthew Nelson (Alana), Jessica Fedderly
(Matt), Stephanie Nelson, Emily Nelson, and Andrew Wallace (Jenn) along with
numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother
Richard.

Bruce earned a BA from Amherst College (1969) and a PhD from Harvard in
Neurobiology (1974). His career as scientific researcher and professor began at Stanford
where he co-discovered Agrin, a protein critical in the formation and maintenance of the
neuro-muscular junction. This discovery opened up a field of developmental
neuroscience that has had great biological and clinical significance.
Bruce continued teaching and researching at the University of Colorado School of
Medicine where he was a professor of physiology and assistant dean of the Essentials
Core Curriculum. He was repeatedly recognized for his outstanding teaching
contributions and he played a pivotal role in the development of a new Basic Science
curriculum for the School of Medicine. When the School’s accreditation was up for
re-evaluation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Bruce led the lengthy
preparations for and helped successfully negotiate the School of Medicine’s
accreditation. Bruce also co-authored editions of the popular neuroscience textbook,
From Neuron to Brain , that have been translated into seven different languages.
His wife and children remember Bruce for his dedication to his family. He loved family
life and all that it entailed. There were ball games of every kind (tennis, golf, backyard
football), creative projects with his boys (Halloween costumes, Pinewood Derby cars),
home improvement projects (finishing the basement, never ending sprinkler repair), and
summer camping trips (Mount Hermon family camp, Rocky Mountain National Park).
Bruce’s journey to faith was a very long one and as he said more than once, “I want to
believe but….” One afternoon after several years of meeting with a dear friend and
faithful witness, Bruce announced that he had indeed asked Jesus into his heart as Lord
and Savior. Even though his dementia was progressing and it proved to be the eleventh
hour, we trust that his destiny was secured and that we will see him again one day in
heaven.

His memorial service will be held at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church at 11am on
Saturday, July 28, 2018. Donations may be made to Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW,
Rochester, MN 55905, by specifying that you would like your support to go to Lewy
Body Dementia research in honor of Dr. Brad Boeve and in memory of Bruce G.
Wallace.

Dorothy Marie Combs

On Sunday, July 15th 2018, amid the singing of her favorite hymns and the reading of passages from Psalms & Proverbs, Dorothy Marie Combs quietly took refuge in the arms of her creator. She was 94 years old.

Dottie (as she was called) was born to Leon and Jenny Wojtkowiak of Camden, New Jersey, on July 9, 1924. Her sister Ruth (deceased) came along four years later, and the girls grew up in the warmth of their Polish neighborhood.

When Dottie was in high school, the family changed its name to Kerniect—an unfortunate misspelling of the German Koenig—but they kept it, anyway. She bore that name until her July 1945 marriage to Louis Kessler Combs, Jr. of Woodbury, New Jersey.

Her husband’s career as a Methodist clergyman and military chaplain meant the family lived in a number of locations: New Jersey, Illinois, Kansas, Germany, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Colorado. Dottie once counted the number of homes—38 of them— she and Louis had lived in together. Wherever she found herself, Dottie made fast friends with her sunny disposition and ready laugh.

She worked early on as an ad copy editor for Curtiss Publishing (Philadelphia) and as an ad designer for the  Gettysburg Gazette. She later served as an admissions clerk at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota, and still later as office manager for a Topeka, Kansas surgeon. Dottie’s true vocation, though, was in the church. She played piano and organ, sang and directed choirs, and chaired various compassion ministries.

Dottie LOVED to sing. Family members received a singing birthday greeting every year. Even when she yawned she often sang a scale! She loved gardening, crafts, sewing, cross-stitch and needlepoint. She loved to play dominoes with her friends at Heather Gardens. She loved her family and friends, her caregivers, and random folks she would encounter when she was out and about. She loved God. She loved.

The family, including five children (and spouses), eleven grandchildren (and spouses), and thirteen great-grandchildren, is grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and kindness from so many near and far.

Rest in peace, Dorothy Marie, you are forever loved and forever remembered.

George Edward Robertson

George Edward Robertson was born to Dick and Chloe Robertson on July 21, 1952 in Craig, Colorado.  He is the second of five children.  He died in an auto accident on June 22, 2018 in Lakewood, Colorado.

The Robertson family had a homestead on Lay Creek and lived there until George was around four years old.  He worried about bears in the outhouse and chased “zuzzers” (Rattlesnakes) into the woodpile.  There are a multitude of stories about his family growing up in Craig and George loved to tell them to anyone who would listen.  In high school George worked for Loren and Helen Baysinger at Mountain Meat Packing.  He loved and respected them very much.  George spent four years in the Navy and then returned to Adams State College for an Accounting degree.  There he met Brynelle Bishop and they married at her family ranch in Deer Creek Canyon in Littleton. They later divorced.  From that union they had two sons, Damon and Devin.  There aren’t enough words to express how much he loved them.  Bryn later had another son, Joe Shepeck, who George always loved as his own.

George lived in a mountain home that was his castle.  He raised his boys there with the help of the big dirt bank nearby.  George never had a bad day.  He accepted everyone without judgment and rarely spoke ill of anyone.  His stories and laugh were loud and boisterous and the stories often changed each time he told them.  His friend base was large and diverse and we are all at a loss with his passing.

George is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Mary Bea Neu.

He survived by his sons, Damon and Shana Robertson, Devin Robertson and Andrea Kunk, and Joe and Hannah Shepeck; brothers Jim and Terri Robertson, Monty Robertson and Lyn Cox; sister Beth and Tom Gilchrist; ex-wife Bryn Shepeck; and brother-in-law Larry Neu; grandchildren Brody and Collin Robertson and Zayla Mae Shepeck; nieces and nephews Catherine and Marty Blevins, Jamie and Dale Skidmore, Franny and Anthony Stausbaugh, Matt and Carol Vassek, Martin Vassek and Brittany Briggs, Melody and Albert Villard, Chloe and Erik Knoche, and Emily Gilchrist; great nieces and nephews Jarred, Jake and Couri Blevins, Luke Kernen, Michael Hough, Shannon and Jaime Russ, Lauren Elliott and children Galen and Eowyn Elliott, Kelton, Chloe, Rylee, and Tess Villard, and Henry and Andrew Knoche; and dear friends Al Walker and Tom Tiedemann.

A Celebration Of Life will be held on August 4, 2018 from 11 am to 1 pm at his home at 17611 North Canyon Road, Littleton, Colorado.  His ashes will be spread later in the fall on Baker’s Peak at his family’s property near Craig.
