Our dear Susan left this world much too early, but our loss is heaven’s gain.

Daughter of Shirley Layne and Jim Engel (deceased) and Bill and Joyce Yardley (deceased) and granddaughter of Mary Jane Layne and Mary Engel (deceased).  Loving wife and life partner of Michael Yardley.

Susan was a dedicated mother to Abigail and Arthur Trukshin, Ian and Sam Yardley, and Tina Slone.   Big sister to Sandi Morey, Sally Fowler, Bret Engel, Amy and Shane Green and Annette and Gary Hurley.  Go-to aunt of Caden, Gage, Piper Green; Emilie McCoy; Sean, Brittney, Asher, Mac, Fizzi Morey; Emerson and Oliver Morey;  and Zoe Engel.

She was a dedicated, trusted friend who was always willing to listen, but also wasn’t afraid to lovingly give her opinion. She made you feel like you were the most important person God ever made.  Her wonderful smile and great sense of humor were infectious.  And she was a pretty good card player and even better at all sorts of beautiful crafts.

While she never held a paying job in the past 30 years, her time on this earth was invaluable.  She worked tirelessly for her family and friends, but most importantly to advance the kingdom of God. All of us who knew her will be hard pressed to fill the hole that she left behind.

There will be a celebration of Susan’s life on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 AM CST, at Millcreek Community Church located at 7825 Gleason, Shawnee KS 66227. The family will be receiving people immediately following the ceremony.   In addition, there will be a Facebook Live broadcast of the ceremony at https://www.facebook.com/mymillcreek/ for family and loved ones who cannot make the journey to Kansas.

Flowers accepted or donations in memory of Susan to Turning Point of Kansas City https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/TurningPointKS/DonationPage.html

Martha Jane Dellinger

Martha “Marty” Jane Dellinger

Born September 5, 1927

Transitioned to Heaven July 21, 2018

Marty was born Martha Jane Ells of German parents who both emigrated from Russia in the late 1800’s and met in the melon fields of Sugar City Colorado. Marty was born in a farmhouse and delivered by her father and a neighbor lady. She was one of 10 births, of which only 7 lived to adulthood. Many years later she and her siblings thought it would be a good idea to have birth certificates created after the fact.

Farming life was hard work with many sacrifices. Being born at the beginning of the Great Depression, she often told the story of only having beans to eat; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone worked on the farm, old and young alike. It was a time and place of kerosene lanterns for light, wood and coal burning stoves for cooking and heating and shared bath water for the entire family with tin wash basins instead of bath tubs. This is where Marty learned and taught her family the value of always working hard, a great sense of humor, family love and celebrating the good things in life.

After leaving the farm during WWII, she started nursing school but later started working as a secretary for insurance companies. She met Bill Dellinger and quickly fell in love with her 6’ 4” Marine and wed on August 19, 1947. They settled in Aurora Colorado and raised 3 children: Buck, Dede and Denver. For a brief time, from 1967 till 1974, lived in Dallas Texas where they quickly found many lifelong friends. After moving back to Colorado they lived in Perry Park for 19 years while she worked at Safeway in Castle Rock and retired in 1993. Marty and Bill then moved to Wolhurst Village in Littleton, Colorado where they lived for 21 years. Marty eventually moved to Brookside Inn in Castle Rock where she was a favorite resident. Her bright eyes, great smile and “giggles” brightened up everyone’s day as it did for everyone her entire life.

In addition to falling in love with Bill, Marty also fell in love with the lifestyle he introduced her to of the outdoors and fishing in the wilderness. Every summer weekend, and long vacations from Dallas, would find them in the Northern Colorado Mountains along with their children and grandchildren and many friends all enjoying the experience and each other. Marty loved to cook on the open camp fire and would serve outstanding full course meals, often bragging about being able to handle hot skillets with her bare hands, an ability she developed on the coal burning cook stoves from her farm life.

Marty was always busy with her gardening, women’s club, camping trips, attending family gatherings and attending Foothills Bible Church where she was baptized in 2009. After retirement from Safeway she continued to work part time well into her 80”s instructing water aerobics and taking care of “little old ladies” although she never considered herself one. In 2007 she was had her wish fulfilled for her 80th birthday when her children took her floating down the Gunnison River and later camping and cooking around the campfire in the high country.

Marty is preceded in death by her husband Bill (August 1998) and her son Denver (April 2018). She is survived by her brother Benny Ells, sister Ester Morse, son Buck (Connie), daughter Dede (Leonard) Shackell, grandchildren Jennifer Dellinger, MR Dellinger, Amanda Dellinger, Tara Shackell and Ryan Smith.

The family has planned a Celebration of Marty’s life at the home of Buck and Connie Dellinger, 5436 S. Laredo St., Centennial, CO 80015 on August 26th at 3pm. Light food will be served.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Brookside Inn, Activities Department, 1297 S Perry Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104 in memory of Marty Dellinger

June Marie Harbath (Trask), 96, passed peacefully at 12:30 pm Saturday August 11, 2018 in the presence of her two daughters and son-in-law at Someren Glen Care Center in Centennial, CO.

June was born on May 18, 1922 in Wausau, Wisconsin.   She went to college for a couple of years, then went to work in the Chemistry Dept. at the same paper mill in Wausau where her father was employed.  Due to World War II, there had been a shortage of employable men.  With the war over, she was out of her job at the paper mill.   After this, she worked in a fine jewelry & watchmaker’s shop in Shawano, WI.  While working there, she met an attractive young man who came into the shop.  She fell for his dapper good looks and big brown eyes.  (Love works in mysterious ways as June was working for her future brother-in-law!)   She had an antique spinning wheel that had a couple of broken spindles.  When she found out this handsome man was a carpenter, she asked him if he could repair it.  That repair was mighty fine and pleasing to both of them.  They continued to see each other and write letters during the time Clyde was serving in the Naval reserves and then overseas in the Korean War.  June and Clyde married July 25, 1953 in Shawano, Wisconsin.   A couple years after they married, they relocated to Crystal Lake, Illinois.  They stayed there, where they loved their home and community for more than fifty years.

June returned to the workforce in the 1970’s.  She became part of the newspaper’s advertising layout team at the then Crystal Lake Herald, (now the Northwest Herald).   A bit later she received her certification to be a teacher’s aide and went to work at Prairie Grove School from 1977 until her retirement in 1987.  She loved this position, the children and being part of the educational process and more.

June was a truly kind and loving person with a wicked sense of humor.  She loved life and was continuously conscious of the welfare of people & animals, both close to home and far away.   She was a devoted wife and mother & loved raising her two daughters.   The Harbath house was known to be a place of homey welcome to all.  She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake for many years.  She loved cooking, antiques, gardening and taking care of their beautiful home.  She enjoyed writing poetry, prose and short stories.  She was an inventive storyteller and submitted her work to various publications, some of which have been published.  She also had a flair for drawing and had great talent.

June was remarkably strong in both character and will.  She was our Bionic mom, she had all six major joints replaced plus many other surgeries, but that seldom slowed her down.  She had an amazing zest for life.  At 89 after her husband Clyde died in 2011, she moved to Colorado where her daughter Jeann and husband live.  Fortunately, her other daughter Wendy moved there a short time later so all the ‘girls’ could be together to live, love and laugh.  June was greatly loved and will continue to be an inspiration to her family and friends.  She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Whitney Harbath, and Jeann Ann Molliconi (David) as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clyde Charles Harbath, her brother Russell F. Trask (LeElda Kufhal), her father Jesse Harris Trask, her mother Erna (Zahn) Trask and her infant brother Lee Trask, her brother-in-law Arthur Jr. Harbath (Marjorie Leigh Applegate), sister-in-law Bess Kuckuk (Harbath) and brother-in-law John (Jack) Kuckuk.

The family is so very grateful for the many kind, loving and helpful people at Someren Glen Care Center for all of their assistance, their caring and their sincere affections which made her last years’ enjoyable and comfortable.  The family also acknowledges the attentiveness and compassionate care of Hospice Compassus who helped ease her last few weeks.  Arrangements are made through Cremation Society of Colorado.  A celebration of life service will be planned for spring of 2019.   In memory of June, gifts/donations may be made to the My Stuff Bags Foundation (www.mystuffbags.org) which serves children who are rescued from neglect, abandonment or abuse.   (A “My Stuff Bag” is full of things they can call their own and need to help them settle in their new environments, such as clothes, toys, toiletries, stuffed animals, and a security blanket.)  Please specify your donation is for June Harbath.  We ask that you drop a line to Jeann or Wendy if you do donate (no donation is too small or too big).
